Moreno came to the United States in 1925.Between the years 1929 and 1931 he continued to experiment with actors and audiences in the Living Newspaper format.He opened the Impromptu Theatre in Carnegie Hall,providing three sessions weekly.These sessions were open to the public,bringing his ideas and practice to a wide range of people.Here again,as in Vienna,Moreno trained professionals to enact situations spontaneously,which were suggested by the audience or the events of the day.Audience members could actively participate by becoming part of the enactment with the trained auxiliaries or they could simply observe the action.Later,as sociodramatists continued to work with a group of trained auxiliaries.The reader will see reports from some of these in Chapter 16.Other sociodramatists directed groups in which the participants themselves volunteered to play all the roles in the enactments.It is the latter type of sociodrama group to which this book directs its major empahsis.

Moreno worked with all segments of the population-infants,children,adults,and the elderly,He worked with the general public as well as psychiatric populations.Moreno saw sociodrama as being useful to all people wherever they congregate.

Acting is a basic ingredient of the theatre,but it is equally indispensable to human behavior.The means by which irdinary people convey their needs-words,gestures,body language,tone of voice-all of these elements are the same tools actors use on the stage to create a character and/or emotion.The basic difference between a person in real life and an actor on stage is that the stage actor is always conscious of a theatrical performance.Oftentimes this stage reenactment appears more truthful than situations we encounter in real life.This was not always true in the theatre,however.At one time all stage acting was much larger than life.
行为是戏剧的一个基本的组成部分，但它同样是人类行为中不可缺少的部分。普通人传达他们的需要的方式—词语，手势，身体，语言，声音的语调—所有这些因素，对演员来说，是同样的工具，他们用这些工具在舞台上表演，创造一个特点或者一种情绪。现实生活中的人和舞台上演员之间的基本区别在于，舞台演员经常能意识到戏剧性的表演。通常情况下，这些舞台上的重新扮演，似乎比我们现实生活中遇到的情境更加真实。然而，这在戏剧中，不是永远真实。有时候，所有的舞台表演都源于生活而高于生活。
