) Abstract: According to the fact that basic laws among a huge amount of structural information lack in design areas, this paper introduces the positioning requirements and positioning design equation for single stationary rigid artifact in narrow sense, and proposes a universal relationship in mechanical artifact structures --- Generalized Positioning Principle after extension to moving and systematic artifact system with generalized positioning measures
Then, three theorems have been derived for qualitative form artifact design including Functional-structure Decomposition and Reconstitution Principle, Third Rigid-body Law, and Assemblibility Paradox for Rigid-body Structures
Application example shows that the theory can serve as a theoretical foundation for structural design automation and contribute to development of innovative design and design science in mechanical design
