基于有限元应力分析的极限平衡法与传统条分法和强度折减法在本质上是一致的

其物理意义是土体整体达到极限平衡的平均强度折减系数或称为强度储备系数

阻滑力的代数和和滑动力的代数和相等是土体沿滑面整体达到极限平衡的充分必要条件

) Abstract: It is proved that the essential and full condition for the soil mass to be in limit equilibrium state along a sliding surface is that the sum of slide force equals to that of resistant sliding force

It shows that the safety factor is the middle value of the strength reduction that makes the soil mass be in limit equilibrium state along the surface

The safety factor is defined as the ratio of the sum of resistant slide force to the sum of slide force along the surface

It is also the essential and full condition for the soil mass to be in limit equilibrium state along the surface

Therefore, it is not necessary to assume that the slide surface is a circle when calculating safety factor

The limit equilibrium method for the slope stability assessment can be used to the problems with any shapes of slide surface

It also shows that the nature of the safety factor is agreeable to the factor of the reduction of shear strength

Numerical examples are given to show that the results of theses two factors together with their own potential dangerous slide surfaces are nearly the same
