） Abstract： As a key technology of supporting new multimedia application, IP multicasting is the most effective one point to many points IP transmission technology
Only copying date packets at necessary branches during network routing procedure, multicast could extremely save link bandwidth and reduce the load of application servers and routers
IGMP which issued by IETF are mainly used to collect group membership information between multicast router and hosts attached, so it is a indispensable protocol to build multicast forwarding tree
Wildly used in academic field, Network Simulator 2 is a excellent platform for studying IP multicast technology, provides common network protocol modules including popular multicast routing algorithms
However, it lacks strong enough group management function so far
This paper reviews the mechanism of IGMPv3, and explains the implementation of IGMPv3(RFC 3376) on ns2, and shows how to apply it in simulation scripts
