) Abstract: In wireless local networks, Medium Access Control (MAC) is used to support asynchronous and time bounded delivery of radio data packets
The MAC protocol is based on a Distributed Coordination Function (DCF), which uses Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) based on binary slotted exponential back-off
In this paper, a QoS enhancement mechanism is proposed, which explores media access delay and the percentage of packet loss for DCF
The two parameters will be reset according to the contention window and exponential back-off to improve the QoS of the system
The performance is verified by using simulations on Opnet10
0 with an analytical model based on Markov chain
