） Abstract： When it comes to build a development environment for embedded system, the GNU Toolchain is attractive with its rich kinds of tools , high portability and traditional style of UNIX-like
But when apply the GNU Toolchain to development of embedded system, its default C library called Glibc is too large and result in the efficiency of the code ,which links to the Glibc, cannot meet the expectation
Newlib may be the best substitution for Glibc with its rich functions, good portability and flexible and light structure
This paper gives an introduction about how to port newlib and how to build a toolchain on the basis of newlib for embedded system in details
