） Abstract： Tree layer coverage is one of the primary numerical characteristics of forest community
However, the index of the same forest community often varied more or less between different researchers, which contributed to subjective estimation
Within Matlab 6
5 computing environment, this paper designed a new method to compute the tree layer coverage of forest community, providing an efficient way to compute the precise value of tree layer coverage
Compared with traditional estimating method, based on objective picture of gray scale mode, the method of this article can provide more stable result between different researchers, by avoiding uncontrollable subjective factors
